How patriarchy and capitalism fucked up my life and what I will do about it 

As designers, we hold great social responsibility, as our doing has a major impact upon society and cultural perception. Therefore, there is so much more to Design than just a shiny surface or a pretty skin: design is a political act – a good designer is a political aware designer.

In this course, we want to be taking our political awareness into account, will look at design and design history – our personal history as well as the institutional – and try to identify patriarchal power structures and inequalities as well as gender differences. We will look at design, art and culture from a feminist angle and look into how feminist, queer or diverse design looks like or what makes it relevant.

With a strong focus on queerness, feminism and gender in design, we will be reading texts, discuss and  analyze design examples, listen to guest speakers and visit, artists, designers, typographers like missy magazine, micha wille and many more.

Our goal is to get an idea of a personal design practice that takes our political position into account and gets us an idea of the responsibility we have as designers.

You will be documenting your individual research within the course.
